The Willamette-Laja Twinning Partnership gathered in June for its third big exchange since 2016. Willamette visitors to the Laja included four teachers from Garfield, Lincoln, Albany and South Shore dual-language immersion schools in Corvallis and Albany, our Twinning program instructor, and Willamette restoration practitioners. The team met with four partner elementary schools in the Laja basin, held strategic planning sessions, and toured landscape-scale watershed restoration efforts implemented by Laja conservation groups and the State of Guanajuato. Visit a photo album from the exchange provided by professional photographer, Geoff Nilsen, board member of the Audubon de Mexico. Also, check out our photo slideshow created by Lincoln 5th grade teacher, Mayra Juarez-Hernandez. The exchange was also featured in Agua Vida San Miguel de Allende’s blog. The exchange resulted in a 3-year strategic plan and recruitment of five Laja primary schools to engage in our shared migratory bird education program. Thank you to all private donors, supporting foundations, and local schools for financial contributions to the 2019 exchange!

On September 19th at 6:30 pm, Willamette partners are encouraged to attend a Twinning Partnership presentation to the Audubon Society of Corvallis by Tara Davis, Dionne Mejia with Institute of Applied Ecology, restoration practitioner Rosario Franco, and our local teachers. The event will take place at the First Methodist Church, 11th Ave. and Monroe Ave., Corvallis. Be sure to check out the Audubon’s August newsletter featuring the Twinning Partnership, exchange, and upcoming presentation!

Lastly, Willamette friends can visit the Twinning Partnership’s booth at Festival Latino in Downtown Albany this September 15th.
